Tales from Scottish Ballads by Elizabeth Grierson
Whenever you read old ballads, sometimes it is hard to decipher the flow of the story that is told in prose. Understanding that, Elizabeth Grierson took some of the favorite Scottish ballads and rewrote them as stories for the modern reader. She follows the original ballad as close as possible. "The Lochmaben Harper, "The Laird O' Logie", "Dick O' the Cow", "The Heir of Linne" and "Hynde Horn are traditional songs. "Kinmont Willie" and "Black Agnace of Dunbar" are tales of the confusion around the time of Wallace. However, the best is last; "The Gude Wallace" tells the tales of Wallace's adventures in Lanark. *Editor's Note: Mrs. Grierson originally included nine more stories of witches and false prophets of Scottish folklore. In the present edition, these nine stories have been removed. 77 Pages
